The 2025 Waqf Amendment: Who Betrayed Muslims, and Who Will Help Now?
A Dangerous Turning Point for Waqf in India
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 was passed in Parliament with a 288–232 majority, drastically altering the control, protection, and management of Waqf properties across India.
But behind the legal language lies a bitter truth: major political parties, especially in Andhra Pradesh, have played with the lives and legacy of Muslims, trading away religious protections for political profit.
TDP and YSRCP: Two Faces, Same Betrayal
TDP – Sold Out for Power
- Voted in favor of the Bill, siding with BJP-NDA.
- Ignored Muslim voices, prioritized alliance gains.
- Support helped pass the bill which weakened Waqf autonomy.
YSRCP – Played Safe, But Weak
- Opposed the bill verbally.
- Didn’t use their strength to rally or block the bill effectively.
- Aimed to look minority-friendly, but didn’t fight hard enough.
Tamil Nadu vs Andhra Pradesh: A Sharp Contrast
Party | What They Did in Similar Bills | Muslim Response |
---|---|---|
DMK (Tamil Nadu) | Strongly opposed the Waqf Bill and united secular forces. | Gained Muslim trust and credibility. |
AIADMK | Maintained distance from BJP, didn’t openly support the bill. | Maintained cautious respect among minorities. |
AIMIM (MIM): Loud Voice, Low Numbers
- Asaduddin Owaisi gave strong speeches against the bill.
- But with very few MPs, MIM couldn’t stop the law.
- Raised awareness, but had no power to block it.
Who Can Truly Help Muslim Citizens Now?
1. Muslim Civil Society & Youth Movements
- Form Waqf Protection Councils at district/state levels.
- Monitor land grabs and illegal transfers.
- Challenge wrong actions in courts.
2. Independent Muslim Media
- Platforms like RAHAMATABAD.COM must expose betrayal and educate the public.
- Share data on how MPs and parties voted.
3. Honest Non-Muslim Allies
- Support from secular Hindus, Dalits, Christians, Sikhs who respect religious rights.
- Invite lawyers, journalists, and activists to build pressure.
4. Legal Action & Courts
- File PILs (Public Interest Litigations) against unjust provisions.
- Seek Supreme Court review of violations of minority rights.
5. United Muslim Political Front (Future Option)
- If betrayal continues, form united Muslim-led alliances or an independent front.
- Must be issue-based, not emotional or caste-based.
Conclusion: A Call to Muslim India
This Waqf Bill is not just a law. It’s a mirror of political betrayal. Andhra Pradesh has shown that both TDP and YSRCP are not reliable when Muslim protection is at stake.
Let us:
- Wake up before it’s too late.
- Stop voting blindly.
- Build our own protections.
History will not forgive silence. Action begins now.
