Inflation In Argentina Dips Below 200% For First Time In A Year

Argentine inflation has dipped to 193%, landing below the 200% threshold for the first time in close to a year, data from statistics agency INDEC showed on Tuesday, as President Javier Milei’s dramatic austerity agenda bears fruit. Slowing inflation, pulled back in part by the government’s dramatic public spending adjustments, has however come at the cost of consumption in a battered economy where more than half of the country has fallen into poverty. Data from INDEC showed that monthly inflation slowed to 2.7% in October from 3.5% the previous month, its lowest since November 2021. The annual rate dipped below 200% for the first time since November last year. While rent and utility costs drove… Read More »Inflation In Argentina Dips Below 200% For First Time In A Year

Russia Bans “Western Liberal Propaganda” Of Choosing Not To Have Children

Russian MPs on Tuesday passed in the final third reading controversial legislation banning “propaganda” of choosing not to have children, the latest measure targeting what Moscow depicts as Western liberal ideas. Facing an ageing population and low birth rates, Moscow is seeking to reverse a demographic slump – accentuated by its military offensive on Ukraine – that threatens its economic future. MPs in the Duma lower house of parliament voted unanimously in favour of the draft bill, which would apply to materials online, in media, advertising and in films that promote “rejection of childbearing”. The bill targets “destructive content” that promotes a “conscious” rejection of having children. The bill’s authors have said it will not… Read More »Russia Bans “Western Liberal Propaganda” Of Choosing Not To Have Children

Top Court Verdict Tomorrow On Pan-India Property Demolition Guidelines

The Supreme Court is scheduled to pronounce its verdict on Wednesday on pleas seeking framing of guidelines on demolition of properties in the country. It was said merely because somebody is an accused or even a convict cannot be a ground for the demolition of property. A batch of pleas alleged that properties, including those accused of a crime, were being… Read More »Top Court Verdict Tomorrow On Pan-India Property Demolition Guidelines

Big Supreme Court Verdict On ‘Bulldozer Justice’ Today, Pan-India Guidelines Expected

After making strong observations on the practice of demolishing houses of criminals to send out a strong message against crime, which has come to be known as ‘bulldozer justice’, the Supreme Court is expected to issue a set of pan-India guidelines for such demolitions on Wednesday.  Hearing several petitions, including one filed by Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, arguing that properties of people were being bulldozed in several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Gujarat, without following due process, a bench of Justices BR Gavai and KV Vishwanathan had asked on September 2 how a house could be demolished just because it belongs to an accused or even a convict in a criminal case.  Noting affidavits… Read More »Big Supreme Court Verdict On ‘Bulldozer Justice’ Today, Pan-India Guidelines Expected
