In a fit of rage over the birth of a fourth daughter when he had hoped for a son, a 30-year-old man killed the newborn by slamming her to the ground in a village here, police said on Friday. Bablu Diwakar has been arrested, they said, adding that he was in an inebriated state when he committed the violent act on Sunday. Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Verma said Diwakar was upset and angry over the birth of another daughter. He said Diwakar had two daughters with his first wife, who died. Union Health Minister JP Nadda has asked Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for a “detailed report” on the row over animal fat in ghee used to make laddoos offered as ‘prasadam‘ to the deity at the Tirupati temple, and to crores of devotees who visit every year.  Mr Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party this week cited a July report from a lab in Gujarat that said samples of the ghee used when his rival, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, was in power contained traces of beef tallow, fish oil, and pig fat, or lard.

Stolen customer data including medical reports from India’s biggest health insurer, Star Health, is publicly accessible via chatbots on Telegram, just weeks after Telegram’s founder was accused of allowing the messenger app to facilitate crime. The purported creator of the chatbots told a security researcher, who alerted Reuters to the issue, that the private details of millions of people were for sale and that samples could be viewed by asking the chatbots to divulge.
