Wayanad Landslides: Centre Denies Kerala’s Request To Declare As National Disaster, Priyanka Criticises Move

<p>The central government has informed the Kerala government that the severe landslides and flash floods that hit Wayanad in July 2024 do not qualify for classification as a &ldquo;national disaster.&rdquo; The decision comes despite the widespread devastation, which left over 200 people dead and resulted in the destruction of hundreds of homes. <p>US President-elect Donald Trump has picked Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Trump announced his pick on Thursday, adding that he was &ldquo;thrilled&rdquo; by his pick. According to an Associated Press report, Kennedy will lead a massive Cabinet agency which oversees everything from drug, vaccine and food safety to medical research. Man Stabs 3, Including Wife, Daughter With Sword In Arunachal Hospital

A 40-year-old man went on a stabbing spree with a sword in a hospital in Arunachal Pradesh’s Seppa district, killing three people including his wife and daughter, and injuring seven other people. The incident took place at the district hospital in Seppa, the headquarters of East Kameng district which is 200 kilometers from the state capital Itanagar. The man, identified as Nikam Sangbia, started attacking people in the hospital with a ‘dao’ (a single-edged traditional sword) out of nowhere, officials said. A group of police officials immediately reached the hospital and tried to stop him. <p>A proposal to introduce a &lsquo;green cess&rsquo; on drinking water to aid in the conservation of the Western Ghats has sparked a split within the Congress-led Karnataka government. While some ministers have shown support for the idea, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar dismissed it as a “rumour” allegedly spread by the BJP, which has condemned the purported “decision” to impose the cess.</p> <p>On Thursday, Shivakumar refuted any plans for a green cess, calling the notion “bogus” and accusing the BJP of misleading the public.
