Secret Service “Needs More Help”: Biden After Trump Assassination Bid

President Joe Biden said Monday that the US Secret Service needs more personnel to perform its duties after a second apparent assassination attempt against Republican election candidate Donald Trump. “One thing I want to make clear, the (secret) service needs more help, and I think the Congress should respond to their needs,” Biden told reporters at the White House. “I think we may need more personnel.” Biden added that “thank God the president’s OK” following Sunday’s incident in which the Secret Service opened fire on a gunman, who was later arrested, at Trump’s golf course in Florida.

Iran’s New President Vows To Ensure Morality Police Don’t “Bother” Women

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian vowed Monday to ensure the morality police will no longer “bother” women, in remarks to the media on the second anniversary of Mahsa Amini’s death in custody. Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurd, died in police custody on September 16, 2022, days after the morality police arrested her in Tehran for an alleged breach of the Islamic republic’s strict dress code for women. Her death triggered months-long protests across the country, with hundreds of people, including dozens of security personnel, killed in the unrest. Pak Man Pleads Not Guilty To US Assassination Plot Charges

A Pakistani man with alleged ties to Iran pleaded not guilty on Monday to charges stemming from an alleged plot to assassinate an American politician in retaliation for the killing of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards top commander Qassem Soleimani. Asif Merchant, 46, entered his plea to one count of attempting to commit terrorism across national boundaries and one count of murder for hire at a hearing before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert Levy in Brooklyn. The judge ordered that Merchant be detained pending trial. Federal prosecutors say Merchant spent time in Iran before traveling to the United States to recruit people for the plot. Gym Operator Beaten To Death In Haryana, 2 Nephews Also Injured: Cops

A gym operator was allegedly beaten to death in a village here by youths late night on Sunday, police said. The man’s two nephews, who came to save him, were also seriously injured in the attack and are being treated in a hospital, they added. A monetary dispute is said to be the reason behind the attack.
