Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) chief Sharad Pawar on Tuesday alleged that “corruption” was the cause of the collapse of the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Sindhudurg district’s Rajkot Fort last month. Mr Pawar was speaking at an event in Kagal in Kolhapur district where BJP leader Raje Samarjeet Ghatge joined NCP (SP). “It was Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj who underlined the strategic importance of the sea, and built Sindhudurg and other sea forts. It was shocking to see that a statue, built only a few months ago and inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, collapsed,” the senior leader said. Woman Tries To Smuggle Drugs Into Jail For Son In Kerala, Arrested: Cops

A 47-year-old woman was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly attempting to smuggle ganja into the Viyyur Central Jail, where her son is an inmate, an official said. Latha, a resident of Panniyode in Thiruvananthapuram, was caught by the Excise team with 80 grams of ganja hidden in her handbag. According to an Excise official, Latha’s son, Harikrishnan, is currently under detention at the jail under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act. He said the Excise department had received a tip-off that Latha would attempt to bring ganja to her son during her visit. Upon inspection, the Excise team found the contraband in her handbag. Thief Spends Night At Bhopal Museum, Gets Caught Next Morning

A man concealed himself at a government museum in Bhopal at night to commit a theft, but was caught on Tuesday morning while trying to flee with ancient coins, police said. The incident took place at the State Museum, said police commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra. The man — whose name was not disclosed — entered the museum before the closing time on Monday evening, and managed to stay inside. But the security personnel spotted him, and alerted police in the morning. Police arrived promptly and surrounded the building, Mishra said. He jumped from a wall in a bid to escape but was arrested.
