Gauri Lankesh Murder Accused Joins Shinde-Led Sena In Jalna Ahead Of Polls

Shrikant Pangarkar, an accused in the 2017 murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh, which outraged the nation, joined Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena in Jalna ahead of assembly polls. GauriLankesh was shot dead outside her home in Karnataka capital Bengaluru on September 5, 2017. A probe by police in Karnataka with assistance from agencies in Maharashtra led to the arrest of several persons. Pangarkar, a Jalna municipal councillor of the undivided Shiv Sena between 2001and 2006, was arrested in August 2018 and was granted bail by the Karnataka High Court on September 4 this year. Babulal Marandi, Hemant Soren’s Ex Aide In BJP’s 1st List Of 66 Candidates For Jharkhand Polls

Two former chief ministers, Babulal Marandi and Champai Soren, are among BJP’s list of 66 candidates for the Jharkhand elections released on Saturday evening. Mr Soren, a former aide of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, quit the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha or JMM and crossed over to the BJP in August.  The list also features Champai Soren’s son and Sita Soren, the sister-in-law of Hemant Soren. Mr Marandi, the Jharkhand BJP president, will contest from Dhanwar, while Champai Soren and his son Babulal Soren will contest from Saraikella and Ghatshila, respectively. Xi Jinping Asks Troops To Prepare For War As Battle Drills Intensify Around Taiwan

Chinese President Xi Jinping called this week for troops to strengthen their preparedness for war, state media reported today, just days after Beijing staged large-scale military drills around Taiwan. Xi made his comments while visiting a brigade of the People’s Liberation Army Rocket Force on Thursday, according to state-run broadcaster CCTV. Xi said the military should “comprehensively strengthen training and preparation for war, (and) ensure troops have solid combat capabilities”, state media CCTV reported. Soldiers must “enhance their strategic deterrent and combat capability,” Xi said.
