RBI Keeps Key Lending Rate Unchanged At 6.5% For 10th Consecutive Time

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has kept its key interest rate unchanged for the tenth consecutive time, its governor Shaktikanta Das announced today. A six-member Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) headed by Mr Das kept the repo rate unchanged at 6.5 per cent. This time three new members were inducted into the MPC, replacing outgoing external members. The new external members included in the MPC are Professor Ram Singh, Director, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi, Saugata Bhattacharya, economist; and Dr. Nagesh Kumar, Director and Chief Executive, Institute for Studies in Industrial Development. Rare Black-Necked Cranes Sighted In Ladakh

The endangered black-necked cranes have been sighted high in the Himalayan wetlands at Hanle in Ladakh at about 4,500 meters altitude. These migratory birds that breed in the Himalayas are listed in Schedule I of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, thereby giving them the highest degree of protection. NDTV’s Pallava Bagla, who is in Ladakh chasing stars and galaxies, had the rare sighting of black-necked cranes. They are also the state bird of Ladakh. The local population in the Changthang region of Ladakh is mostly Buddhists, and they venerate these birds, which also are part of the paintings in old monasteries. Rampur’s Muslim Family Crafts 80-Foot-Tall Pollution-Free Ravan’s Effigy

For many generations, a Muslim family in Rampur has created effigies for Dussehra; this year, the largest effigy of Ravana for Dussehra, measuring 80 feet, was created. Mumtaz Khan, the head of the family that makes effigies, said that making effigies of Raavan is Dada Ilahi’s work. His grandfather, his father and now their children are doing this work. “My Dada did it, my father did it, and now my children are doing it. This work has been ongoing for 60-70 years.
