Kolkata’s Junior Doctors Vs Cops Over Leaflet Distribution At Puja Pandals

Kolkata’s protesting doctors’ plan to distribute leaflets at pandals during the ongoing Durga Puja was vetoed by the police over concerns about crowd management. The police contend that the sensitive issue could upset people and lead to a law and order issue in the festive season.  The doctors, a section of whom are on a hunger strike, wanted to reach out to the people and spread awareness about their demands from the state government. The protesters have been called to the state secretariat tonight for another round of discussion. Meet China’s “Spider-Woman” Who Can Climb 108-Metre Cliff Without Safety Gear

A 43-year-old woman in China is being praised online for her remarkable ability to climb cliffs exceeding 100 meters in height without safety gear. According to the South China Morning Post, Luo Dengpin, who has earned the title of “Chinese Spider-Woman,” is recognised as the world’s only female practitioner of the ancient Miao tradition of bare-handed rock climbing. She is able to climb a 108-metre-high cliff, which is equivalent to a 30-storey building, and effortlessly move across vertical rock faces.  According to SCMP, Ms Luo is currently the only female among the region’s “spider people”. Around 250 Protesting Samsung Electronics Workers Arrested In Tamil Nadu

Around 250 striking Samsung electronics workers were arrested by the Kancheepuram police today for allegedly occupying private land without permission and holding protests without permission. The workers have been on strike for a month, demanding recognition of their union, pay revision, eight-hour work schedule and other benefits. Last week, Samsung agreed to many of the demands, including a Rs five thousand increment, but refused to recognise the union. It also announced AC buses to transport all workers, Rs one lakh emergency relief to families in the event of the death of a worker and agreed to discuss other demands.
