“Child Marriage Deprives Children Of Agency, Autonomy”: Supreme Court

Issuing a slew of directions for the effective implementation of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, the Supreme Court on Friday said that child marriage deprives children of their agency, autonomy, and right to fully develop and enjoy their childhood. A bench, headed by CJI DY Chandrachud, ordered state and Union Territory governments to appoint officers solely responsible for discharging the functions of Child Marriage Prohibition Officers (CMPOs) at the district level. “These officers should not be burdened with additional duties that could impede their focus on preventing child marriage,” the bench said. The bench, also comprising Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, was dealing with a public interest litigation (PIL) raising the grievance… Read More »“Child Marriage Deprives Children Of Agency, Autonomy”: Supreme Court

‘Leaked Letter’ By 19 MLAs Sparks Rebellion Buzz Against Manipur Chief Minister

Local media reports of a purported letter allegedly written by 19 BJP MLAs in Manipur to their party’s central leadership has again sparked a buzz over rebellion against Chief Minister N Biren Singh. Top-order batter Rachin Ravindra was relieved after New Zealand managed to bag the big wicket of Virat Kohli off the final ball of the third day, and hoped the bowlers will keep piling pressure on India on Saturday. But the former Indian skipper fell to Glenn Phillips, edging him to stumper Tom Blundell to bring some respite to the visitors. “It’s pretty hard to crystal-ball gaze into the future. It’s a quality batting line-up on a wicket that’s not doing too much, so it’s important for us… Read More »“Virat Kohli’s Wicket Was Huge”: New Zealand Star Blunt Verdict

“Making That Decision…”: India Great’s Take On Rohit Sharma ‘The Leader’

Former India cricketer and NCA head VVS Laxman on Friday praised Rohit Sharma for taking ownership of the wrong call at the toss in the first Test against New Zealand, saying that he does a “phenomenal job” in leading by example. Rohit’s decision to bat first in the opening Test backfired horribly as India were shot out for a mere 46 inside 32 overs, recording their third lowest total in 593 Tests and lowest-ever in 293 matches on home soil.
