Navneet Rana Will Not Contest Maharashtra Assembly Polls, Says Her Husband

Ravi Rana, Independent MLA from Badnera in Amravati district, on Friday said his wife Navneet Rana will not contest the Maharashtra assembly polls as the Bharatiya Janata Party has assured her membership of the Rajya Sabha. Speaking to reporters, Mr Rana said his wife, a former Lok Sabha MP from Amravati, will ensure the victory of the BJP candidate in the state polls, which is likely to be held next month. In Daring Assam Prisonbreak, 5 Men Scale 20-Foot Wall With Bedsheets, Lungis

Five undertrial prisoners, charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, escaped from a prison in Assam after breaking rods and scaling a 20-foot wall using bedsheets, blankets and ‘lungis’ (a piece of clothing worn around the waist).  The prisoners escaped from the Morigaon District Jail between 1 and 2 am on Friday, prompting the district administration to order a magisterial probe. The jailer, Prashanta Saikia, has been suspended, and two assistant jailers from Guwahati have been temporarily assigned to manage the prison. Inspector General (Prisons) Pubali Gohain will also conduct a separate departmental inquiry into the incident. The Congress government in Karnataka has decided to withdraw a criminal case registered against a mob which had attacked policemen with stones on April 16, 2022, in Hubballi town. This was one of the 43 cases the state Cabinet decided to withdraw at its meeting on Thursday following a petition by the Anjuman-e-Islam to the Home Minister G Parameshwara, official sources said. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Friday described the government’s decision as the “height of appeasement.” “Unfortunately, the Congress party here in Karnataka has reached the height of appeasement.
