3 Dead, 10 Injured After Car Falls In Deep Gorge In Uttarakhand

Three people died and 10 others were injured after a car carrying a marriage party fell into a deep gorge in Pauri district, officials said on Saturday. The incident happened on Friday evening near Naugaon on Sisaldi-Anskghet motor road in Lansdowne area, they said. The car was going to Guniyalgaon from Basra village. In a hurry to reach the destination, the driver took a shorter route instead of the main road, the disaster management office here said. He lost control and the car, a Mahindra Maxx, fell into a gorge, killing two women and a man on the spot, the officials said. Climate activist Greta Thunberg was among dozens of protesters detained Saturday for blocking a road in the Belgian capital at a demonstration against fossil fuel subsidies. An AFP journalist saw the iconic Swede — who has previously been detained for civil disobedience at protests in various countries — carried away by police after refusing to leave a sit-in. Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party, which was hoping to find a toehold in Haryana — the next logical choice after ruling Delhi and Punjab — could fail to open its account in the state, exit polls have indicated. Exit polls, though, can often get it wrong.  AAP had contested on 89 of Haryana’s 90 seats.
