<p>A massive fire broke out at Bangalore Bioinnovation Centre (BBC) on Tuesday morning causing extensive property damage estimated at Rs 110 crore, confirmed Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge. As the fire accident took place on a public holiday no casualties were reported. </p>
<p>The Bangalore Bioinnovation Centre, a Government of Karnataka initiative located in Bengaluru’s Electronic City, suffered significant losses due to the fire. The blaze reportedly originated on the second floor of the facility. Minister Kharge, who oversees the Information Technology and Biotechnology portfolios, said that the mishap occurred in a recently revamped section designed to accommodate more startups, as per a report on PTI.</p>
<p>The preliminary estimates indicate that startups incurred losses ranging between Rs 80 crore and Rs 110 crore while the BBC’s infrastructure sustained damages worth approximately Rs 42 crore. The second floor was completely gutted and the interconnected HVAC lines caused extensive damage to the first and ground floors as well.</p>
<p>Key infrastructure at the BBC, including the Bangalore Bio Bank, Cleanroom facilities, Flowcytometry, HVAC units, and AC systems, was severely affected. Additionally, critical equipment belonging to incubated startups was damaged, further compounding the losses.</p>
<p>Minister Kharge’s office released a list of startups that bore the brunt of the fire. “The list of startups gravely affected includes – Fermbox (3 labs), Phyxx 44 (3 labs), Ajitha prodrug (1 lab), Galore Tx (1 lab), Ikesia (1 lab), Immunitas (2 labs) Yokogawa (1 lab). Several other startups were also affected (Including Atrimed pharma, 4basecare, Anabio, Anava bio, Pandorium, Oxonexe Presude Lifesciences, Zhichu among others,” the statement read, as per a report on PTI.</p>
<p>”All BBC startups were previously informed not to store and use any large volume of the inflammable chemicals in their labs and a separate open storage area was provided for the same,” said the statement, as per the report.</p>
