<p>A 19-year-old newlywed woman reportedly died by suicide near Kondotty in Kerala. The Kondotty police confirmed the incident on Wednesday and stated that a case of unnatural death has been registered. Further, the family members of the deceased had alleged harassment from her husband and in-laws over her complexion and lack of English proficiency.</p>
<p>The girl’s family accused her husband and in-laws of subjecting her to mental harassment which led to the decision, as per a report on PTI. A family member revealed that the girl’s college professors had informed them about her declining academic performance and visible signs of dejection. When confronted, the girl disclosed that her husband had been critical of her appearance and language skills, and this had severely affected her emotional well-being.</p>
<p>The body was buried after the post-mortem was completed on Tuesday evening.</p>
<p>The relative also stated that the family had taken steps to address her mental health by arranging counseling, which initially seemed to help. However, a subsequent meeting with her in-laws reportedly worsened her condition. During the meeting, her mother-in-law allegedly questioned her commitment to the marriage, which had lasted only 20 days, further exacerbating her distress.</p>
<p>The police have initiated an investigation into the matter and the family’s allegations will be examined as part of the probe. </p>
