‘Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Shown Their Place’: Amit Shah Says BJP Win In Maharashtra Marked ‘End Of Betrayal Politics’

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday accused veteran politician Sharad Pawar of engaging in a politics of betrayal and treachery in Maharashtra since 1978. He stated that a trend was brought to an end by the BJP’s decisive victory in the 2024 assembly elections, ensuring a stable government in the state.

According to a report by the news agency PTI, while addressing a state BJP convention in Shirdi, Amit Shah asserted that the people of Maharashtra rejected the “politics of dynasty and betrayal” represented by Sharad Pawar, who leads the NCP (SP), and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray.

The Mahayuti coalition, comprising the BJP, NCP, and Shiv Sena, secured a landslide victory in the 2024 assembly elections, winning 230 of the 288 assembly seats. The BJP emerged as the largest party with 132 seats, while the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition was reduced to 46 seats, with NCP (SP) and Sena (UBT) winning only 10 and 20 seats, respectively.

“Sharad Pawar started politics of ‘daga-phatka’ (betrayal and treachery) in Maharashtra in 1978, which was rejected by people in 2024 (elections). Similarly, the politics of the dynasty and the betrayal of Uddhav Thackeray was also rejected. People showed Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray their place in the 2024 polls. They sent both home and made the real Shiv Sena and NCP victorious along with BJP,” he added.

Shah claimed that Pawar initiated the “politics of betrayal” in 1978 when he split from the Vasantdada Patil government with 40 MLAs to become Chief Minister. He further criticised Uddhav Thackeray for breaking his alliance with the BJP after the 2019 elections over the chief ministerial position.

Amit Shah Ask BJP Workers To Include Women, Farmers Into Party

Highlighting the significant role played by the BJP workers that resulted in a massive victory, Shah stated, “You are the facilitator of the party’s victory from panchayat to Parliament. You have to make BJP invincible so that no one dares to betray it again.”

He urged them to strengthen the party at the booth level and asked to make an inclusion of women and farmers in large numbers.

The Union minister urged the opposition to only “watch” as the BJP government fulfills all its promises, without questioning how it will be achieved. “The BJP under PM Modi ensured that Ram Lalla moved from a tent to a temple after 550 years. Article 370 (giving special powers to Jammu and Kashmir) has been abrogated and terrorism has ended (in the Valley). We have promised that Naxalism will be eradicated by March 31, 2026,” he also said.

He emphasised that India’s overall development hinges on Maharashtra’s progress, assuring that the BJP-led government in the state will drive this growth. Shah highlighted the historic significance of the BJP’s victory in Maharashtra, claiming it dealt a significant blow to the INDIA alliance, a coalition of over two dozen opposition parties.

The Union Minister pointed out growing rifts within the alliance, citing conflicts among Congress and its partners in Delhi, West Bengal, Bihar, and Maharashtra. He confidently declared that the decline of the I.N.D.I.A bloc has already begun, predicting a decisive BJP victory in the upcoming Delhi assembly elections.

“Shiv Sena (UBT) is going solo in Maharashtra local bodies polls, AAP and Congress are fighting Delhi polls separately. Things are not good in West Bengal and Bihar for the opposition alliance. Keep your firecrackers ready on February 8 as BJP will win Delhi,” he further added. Shah called on BJP workers to ensure the political defeat of the opponents and make the party an invincible force.
