BJP MLC CT Ravi, who was arrested on Thursday for his “derogatory” remarks against minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar, was granted interim bail on Friday by the Karnataka high court. After getting the relief, the BJP leader said he was arrested in a “false” case and that he was treated like a “terrorist”.

”Our custodian (chairman) clearly said it was a false case filed against me and they treated me like a terrorist, let them introspect what they have done. I’m not doing well as I didn’t eat properly last night and in the morning,” Ravi said.

He further said the high court had sent a clear message by awarding him bail as he was arrested without proof. The bail was granted by a single-judge bench, headed by Justice MG Uma, who issued an interim order for his release on Friday.

Earlier today, the BJP leader was produced at the people’s representative court in Bengaluru.

MLC Ravi also accused the Congress-led Siddaramaiah government in the state of acting like “dictators” after his arrest. “They (state government) have acted like dictators, there is a full stop to everything, dictatorship will not last long,” he had said.

Following the Karnataka HC’s order, Ravi’s son Swarthak Surya said: “I knew the verdict would be in our favour. I had faith in God and I believed we would get justice…He would never use such abusive language for anyone, especially women, so I was shocked when I heard this, but I know my father. He treats everyone with respect, whether young or old…I never doubted my father for a moment”.

Basavaraj Bommai, former Karnataka chief minister, reacted to Ravi’s arrest saying that the law was misused due to the “police raj” in Karnataka. “When there was a slogan Pakistan zindabad, they never arrested anybody, they took time for the FCL report for 2 months and then made the arrest. Here, no procedure has been done. Investigation must be done and truth must come out and then action must be taken,” he said, slamming the Karnataka government.

CT Ravi also filed a counter-complaint against Congress leaders Lakshmi Hebbalkar, Chamaraja Hattiholi, DK Shivakumar, Saddam, and others at the Khanapur police station in Belagavi, accusing them of an attempt to murder him.

Ravi remains suspended from the legislative council following his arrest over the alleged remarks against Hebbalkar.

The complaint filed by minister Laxmi Hebbalkar against the BJP MLC said he had used a derogatory remark against her during an altercation over Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on BR Ambedkar.
