Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher told news agency ANI, “Indian government, the fifth largest economy in the world, used force against 101 farmers. Chemical water was thrown at us using cannons. Bombs were thrown at us. Tear gas shells were also thrown. 17 farmers have been injured, out of which many are in serious condition, and they are not being given proper treatment in the hospital. We are telling the Punjab government to ensure good treatment.”

”On December 16, a tractor march will be organised outside Punjab, and on December 18th, we have called ‘Rail Roko’ in Punjab. We appeal to all Punjabis to participate in “Rail Roko’ in large numbers… The opposition should not run away from their role by just giving a statement. They should shed light on the agenda to fulfil the demands of farmers. They should stall the Parliament on our issue just like they are stalling the Parliament on other issues. Rahul Gandhi is not raising our issue in the Parliament as he had assured us,” he added.

Meanwhile, Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi accused the government of failing farmers as he said, “Today, you lob tear gas shells on farmers outside Delhi, you unleash lathi charges on them. Farmers demand MSP and a fair price, but you facilitate profits to Adani and Ambani and cut off the thumbs of farmers.”

The confrontation took place when a group of 101 farmers, who had resumed their march to Delhi around noon from the Shambhu border, reached barricades erected by Haryana security forces. Several protesters sustained injuries from tear gas shells and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Earlier in the day, Ambala Deputy Commissioner Parth Gupta and Superintendent of Police S S Bhoria met with the farmers and urged them to seek permission from Delhi authorities before proceeding. Despite these discussions, the farmers insisted on continuing their march.

Farmers Request Various Demands Including MSP

The farmers are requesting the Centre for various demands, including a legal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) for their crops. After walking for a few metres, Haryana security personnel stopped the group of farmers at the barricade. This marked the third attempt by farmers to march to the national capital after similar efforts on December 6 and December 8 were blocked by Haryana authorities.

Protesting under the banners of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, the farmers are pushing not only for an MSP guarantee but also for the Centre to hold discussions addressing their concerns.

The Ambala district administration has imposed a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which bans the assembly of more than five people in the area. Ambala police had previously stated that the farmer groups, advocating for MSP and other demands, would only be allowed to proceed to Delhi after securing approval from the Delhi administration.
