<p>Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on Sunday that the central government is leveraging diplomatic channels to ensure the safety of Hindus in Bangladesh, who have reportedly faced atrocities in the neighbouring country. He emphasised that it is the responsibility of the Bangladeshi government to protect Hindus, the largest religious minority in the nation.</p>
<p>&ldquo;The events happening in Bangladesh are sad. The government of India has already reacted. It is the responsibility of the government of Bangladesh to ensure the safety of the religious minority Hindus there,&rdquo; Sarma told told news agency PTI. &ldquo;Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been using various diplomatic channels to ensure that the Bangladesh government provides security to the Hindus,&rdquo; he added.</p>
<p>Sarma expressed solidarity with the Hindus of Bangladesh, saying, &ldquo;We all are concerned about the insecurity, harassment, and arrests they are facing there. But we believe that through the efforts of Modi ji, their security will be ensured.&rdquo; The chief minister also noted that strict surveillance is being maintained along Assam’s border with Bangladesh.</p>
<p>Referring to infiltration attempts along the border, Sarma said, &ldquo;We have noticed that those trying to enter India are not Hindus. You all know who is trying to come, I share the details on social media when they are held and pushed back.”</p>
<p>He further disclosed that names, photos, and details of Bangladeshi nationals attempting to cross the border illegally have been shared. These individuals, primarily from the Muslim community, were intercepted by security forces and subsequently sent back.</p>

<p>Five infiltrators from Bangladesh were arrested by Assam Police and sent back to the neighbouring country, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on Sunday. However, he did not disclose the bordering district where the illegal immigrants were arrested.</p>

<p>The Bangladeshi nationals attempting to cross the border without proper documentation have been identified as Md Noor Islam, Md Imran, Yasmin Akhtar, Ishmo Tara Akhtar, and Md Babul Hussain, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Since unrest erupted in Bangladesh, more than 160 infiltrators have been apprehended in Assam and returned to the neighbouring country.&nbsp;Security along the 1,885-km India-Bangladesh border in the Northeast has been significantly heightened.</p>
