The vote counting for the Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand took place on November 23, three days after polling concluded in both states. In Maharashtra, the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance aimed to retain power, while the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) focused on reclaiming control. In Jharkhand, the JMM-Congress coalition worked to secure another term, as the NDA sought to unseat Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s government. Maharashtra witnessed a historic victory for the BJP-led Mahayuti, which dominated the elections, defeating the MVA in a landslide. The alliance won 230 of the 288 Assembly seats, with the BJP emerging as the largest party, securing 132 seats. Other key allies, Shinde’s Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s NCP, won 57 and 41 seats, respectively. Meanwhile, the MVA, including Congress, Sharad Pawar’s NCP, and Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT), managed only 48 seats collectively. In contrast, Jharkhand saw the INDIA bloc retain power. The JMM secured 34 seats, Congress won 16, while the BJP managed 21. Smaller parties like RJD, CPI (ML), and others won the remaining seats, ensuring the NDA could not make significant inroads.
