Tamil Nadu Congress General Secretary Saravanan has written to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, urging the inclusion of Congress and other alliance partners in the state Cabinet. This move comes in the wake of actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party declaring its willingness to share power with allies, stirring new political expectations in Tamil Nadu.

Saravanan emphasised that his letter reflects the sentiments of Congress cadres who believe that after K. Kamaraj, the party has not had a significant share in state governance. He stated, “I have said that all alliance parties should be given importance by sharing the cabinet. These are the views of the party cadre, which I have written in the letter. After Kamarajar, (Congress) has not been in power and this is the right time to share the cabinet with alliance partners.”

”TVK chief Vijay said that he too will share the cabinet with alliance parties and give importance to alliance parties. So I thought, Stalin would do this now only in 2024, so I have raised this issue. He should take a decision,” he said.

In a major rally in Vikravandi on Sunday, TVK president Vijay made it clear that his party is prepared to share power with allies in the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections. Vijay took a strong stance against both sectarian forces and the ruling DMK’s “Dravida model,” which he described as politically corrupt. His declaration has led several political observers to speculate about growing pressure on DMK allies to demand a greater say in the current administration.

Saravanan’s letter comes on the heels of similar demands from Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), another DMK ally, which also requested Cabinet representation. These developments highlight increasing pressure within the alliance ahead of the 2026 polls.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Law Minister S. Regupathy took a dig at Vijay’s TVK, dismissing the party as the BJP’s “C team” and likening their Vikravandi meeting to a grand film production.
