At the ABP Southern Rising Summit 2024 in Hyderabad, historian and author Sampath discussed his new book, Tipu Sultan: The Saga of the Mysore Interregnum (1760-1799), which explores the life of the 18th-century ruler. He emphasized that while Muslims need not glorify Tipu Sultan due to his history of forced conversions and the destruction of places of worship, his identity should not be exploited to target any community. Sampath also referenced the Congress government’s celebration of Tipu Sultan Jayanti during its previous tenure in Karnataka and criticized the BJP for twisting historical narratives surrounding the ruler’s death to appeal to certain voter segments, highlighting the politicization of history.
