Bypolls 2024: BJP Fields Navya Haridas Against Priyanka Gandhi In Wayanad, Announces Candidates For 25 Seats

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday announced Navya Haridas as its candidate for the upcoming by-election in the Wayanad constituency, where she will face Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The by-election is set to be held on November 13, with results expected on November 23, as per the announcement by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday.

The Wayanad Lok Sabha seat was vacated after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is now the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, opted to retain the Rae Bareli seat in Uttar Pradesh following his victory in both constituencies. In response, the Congress party decided to field Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, marking her electoral debut from Wayanad. Since announcing Priyanka’s candidature, the Congress, led by Mallikarjun Kharge, has intensified its campaign efforts, aiming to build upon the previous victory margin achieved by Rahul Gandhi.

In addition to the Wayanad by-election, the BJP also announced candidates for 24 assembly constituencies across eight states. Among these, former Member of Parliament Sunil Soni has been nominated to contest from the Raipur City South assembly seat in Chhattisgarh. The assembly polls will also be held in Assam, Bihar, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and West Bengal.
