New Delhi: India has officially surpassed Japan to become the third most powerful nation in Asia, according to the latest Asia Power Index 2024. The index, compiled by the Lowy Institute, measures national influence based on factors such as military capability, economic strength, diplomatic influence, and resilience.
India’s rise in ranking is attributed to its growing economic might, increased defense spending, and expanding regional influence. The country has strengthened its military partnerships with global powers like the United States and France, while also boosting domestic manufacturing in defense and technology sectors.
China and the United States continue to hold the top two positions in the Asia Power Index, but India’s rapid ascent highlights its growing importance in global geopolitics. Experts believe that India’s strategic positioning in the Indo-Pacific region and its increasing involvement in multilateral organizations have contributed to this shift.
While India’s ranking has improved, challenges remain in areas such as infrastructure development, income inequality, and regional security. However, with continued reforms and strategic diplomacy, India is well-positioned to solidify its influence on the global stage.
