Tamil Nadu Police Nab Key Suspect In BSP Leader’s Murder After Shootout

Tamil Nadu police on Wednesday night apprehended Bomb Saravanan, a key suspect in the murder of BSP State President K Armstrong, following a gun battle. The arrest took place after an intensive investigation led by special police teams in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh.

Once detained, Saravanan was brought to Chennai, where he was questioned at MKB Nagar in connection with the murder and to uncover a possible hidden weapons cache, according to a report on India Today.

During the operation, Saravanan reportedly attempted to evade capture by throwing a country bomb at the officers. In response, the police claimed that they were compelled to open fire. This injuried Saravanan in the leg. Later, he was then swiftly subdued and taken into custody for further interrogation.

On July 5, last year, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) state president K. Armstrong was brutally hacked to death by a gang, sparking widespread outrage. Opposition parties, including the AIADMK, accused the government of failing to maintain law and order in the state.

Nearly three months later, in October, the Chennai Police submitted a detailed chargesheet spanning 5,000 pages to a local court. The chargesheet concluded that Armstrong’s murder was the outcome of a conspiracy involving three separate gangs, each driven by different motives.
