A devastating fire at a private four-story hospital in Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul late Thursday night resulted in the tragic loss of six lives, including a child and two women, while leaving several others injured. The blaze, suspected to have been triggered by a short circuit, trapped numerous patients and staff at City Ortho Hospital, situated along the Dindigul-Trichy National Highway. The fire erupted around 9 PM, with flames and thick smoke rapidly spreading from the hospital’s entrance throughout the building. Eyewitnesses recounted scenes of chaos and urgency as rescue teams worked tirelessly to evacuate nearly 100 people from the smoke-filled premises. Among the fatalities were five individuals trapped in an elevator on the hospital’s ground floor, unable to escape the suffocating smoke. Preliminary findings indicate that suffocation was likely the cause of death, though official medical confirmation is awaited.
