Chinmoy Krishna Das, a prominent Hindu monk, was arrested on charges of treason in Bangladesh. In a related development, ISKCON Kolkata reported that a Bangladeshi lawyer defending Das was attacked by Islamic extremists, suffering serious injuries that left him in the ICU. This attack led to the refusal of lawyers to appear during Das’ bail hearing, forcing the Chittagong court to adjourn the case.

The incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Hindus in Bangladesh, where the minority community, once comprising about 22% of the population during the 1971 Liberation War, has dwindled to around 8% today. The decline has been driven by socio-political marginalization, mass migration, and periodic violence targeting the Hindu community.
